The Chandigarh Administration today signed a power purchase agreement with the National Hydro Power Corporation

Chandigarh May 22:- The Chandigarh Administration today signed a power purchase agreement with the National Hydro Power Corporation (N.H.P.C.) for the supply of 3 Mega Watt power to U.T. Chandigarh from its Dulhasti Hydro Electric Project in Jammu & Kashmir State. The power supply from this project is expected to be available to the city by December, 2006.
The U.T. Finance-cum-Engineering Secretary, Mr.S.K.Sandhu and N.H.P.C. Chief Engineer(Commercial), Sh.V.K.Jain signed this agreement on behalf of Chandigarh Administration and N.H.P.C., New Delhi respectively. The demand for power has increased tremendously. On the creation of the U.T. Chandigarh the peak demand was only 13 Mega Watt and the power requirement was 1.38 lacs unit per day but on account of development of Chandigarh, now its average power requirement during this summer has touched 41 lakh unit per day whereas the peak demand has been recorded to 264 Mega Watt.
