North East Craft Fair-cum-sale Exhibition in Chandigarh

The Home Secretary, U.T., Chandigarh, Sh.Krishna Mohan today inaugurated a 15-day North East Craft Fair-cum-sale Exhibitionand Live Demo by Crafts persons from all over the country at Lala LajpatRai Bhavan, Sector 15, here.The exhibition being organized by Purabshree Emporium of North Eastern handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Limited under theaegis of the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, aim sat marketing of handicrafts and handlooms of the seven states of theNorth-Eastern Region, namely, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya,Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Mizoram.The Exhibition show cases cane and bamboo furniture, which suit modern tastes and preferences. Basketry and cane works from Assam and Tripura have an exquisite specimen of cane work particularly of woven items and sital patti made with a kind of reed. Assam Muga silk saree, mulvervy silk saree, endi chaddar, Naga Shawls, Gamocha, Lai Shingphee and many more items are the centre of attractions.
